Walk The Doc is an international film festival initiated by Walkabout Asia that brings together documentary filmmakers, environmentalist, travellers and content creators who recognize the importance and impact of our environment to our future world development.

This annual event offers an ideal setting for documentary filmmakers to premier new work and talent as well as developing lasting relationships among industry players. We have several awards up for grabs, to celebrate the very best of the submissions we receive, curated from our Official Selection.

2024 marks the third year of Walk The Doc and we have put together more offerings for our attendees and delegates. Join us this year in Kuala Lumpur to be inspired, educated and moved by the power of documentary film.

  

Film Submission

Focusing on Nature, Environment and Travel, we are looking for stories that document interesting events, amazing people and intriguing things that address the beauty and how we care or should care about our planet.

We accept documentaries, reports, and travel programmes.

All submissions must comply to the Rules & Regulations. Please read them carefully.

Small Story Big Impact (SSBI) is an incubator programme to boost the creation of factual content and documentaries of nature, environment, culture, heritage and people.

The programme aims to develop talents and encourage content creators to engage with their surroundings and capture the many untold stories around their community.

Each year, around 8 – 10 selected filmmakers will receive a grant and mentorship to produce a short documentary according to aspecific chosen theme.

All SSBI documentaries will be premiered and judged at theannual Walk The Doc Festival and one documentary will be awarded SSBI Outstanding Documentary.

STORIES
WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Story theme is Kuala Lumpur Old Charm
  • Proposed documentaries MUST be from the downtown Kuala Lumpur area
  • Stories can be from the subject of Cultural Diversity, Heritage Monuments, Traditional Trades and Community, Historical Architecture, Nature & Biodiversity
  • Special preference will be given for stories within the Merdeka 118 precint eg stories of Stadium Merdeka, Stadium Negara
  • Duration of story is 5 – 7 minutes

CRITERIA

  • Open to participants 18 years and above
  • Basic knowledge in videography and editing
  • Able to complete the documentary in 1.5 months
  • Able to work independently and collaborate with other participants and local community 
  • Must attend the Mentorship Programme
  • Documentary produced must be of new work
